Founded by Snatam Kaur, Livtar Singh and Guru Ganesha, Peace Family went into the studio in January 2000 to create their first CD.
When they started playing, they had so much music to share that they ended up with 2 CDs rather than one, including To Heaven and Beyond, available here from Yoga Technology.
Snatam Kaur has been singing and playing music all of her 28 years. As a young girl in California, she learned to sing with her mother in the Sikh musical style. As she has grown, her musical scope has expanded, and she now includes many traditions and many instruments in her exploration of sound.
Snatam's voice has the powerful combination of sweetness, purity and strength, and her unique interpretation of music comes from her soul. She can sing in styles of traditional Gurbani kirtan, American folk music, jazz, rock and anything in between. Living in Eugene, Oregon, Snatam is just beginning to tap into her unlimited potential.
Livtar Singh Khalsa has been known for almost 30 years as one of the most inspirational songwriters and singers of the Khalsa musical heritage.
Starting out in the early 70's as a young guitarist with the Khalsa String Band, Livtar composed songs of love and inspiration that have been sung by generations of spiritual seekers. His words combine personal insight with devotion to principals of higher wisdom.
His melodies and voice create a mood of sweetness and beauty. His music will be cherished for many years to come.
Guru Ganesha Singh Khalsa also started out in a musical family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to a Russian Jewish father who worked as a professional comedian/singer and an Irish Catholic mother who was a professional dancer, his early years were filled with song and dance.
When the rock and roll explosion hit the U.S. in the 1960's, Guru Ganesha bought an electric guitar and joined in with boundless enthusiasm. When he started exploring his spirituality through Sikhism, Guru Ganesha brought his love of Western music to the traditions of his new Eastern lifestyle.
Through the years, Guru Ganesha has spread his personal brand of musical inspiration to people all over the world.
