Thomas Barquee - Artist and Producer Extraordinaire
Products and Biography
Thomas Barquee began his own study of classical piano and composition at age nine, in Hamburg Germany. Now based in Los Angeles, he has recorded and performed his own style of sacred music, but these days most of his time is taken up in the studio as a leading arranger and producer, with many of his regular artists being firm favorites within the Yogi Bhajan-inspired Kundalini Yoga community.
Brought up in Germany in a Protestant family, the young Thomas Barquee attended church frequently, drawn in large part to the sacred music, especially that of J.S. Bach. As a young child, he was also exposed to Beethoven and to the Romantic composers. He began his own study of classical piano and composition at the tender age of nine with an internationally renowned teacher in Hamburg, Germany.
His first compositions were piano pieces and string quartets, and he served as a church organist from age 16 to 18. However, young Thomas’s musical interest was shifting to pop and rock and roll and for a time he even joined a punk rock band.
In his mid-20s, Thomas Barquee was a busy recording session musician, toured internationally with his own bands, had a five year publishing deal with Warner Brothers, had a record deal with EMI Japan, and was well on his way to European/Asian pop stardom. But somewhere along the line the world of pop stardom lost its appeal to him.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1992 in search of new inspiration. In doing so he also reinstated his dormant Kundalini Yoga practice (he had become a practitioner in India more than a decade earlier), and significantly shifted his musical perspective to one more spiritually oriented.
He now records and performs his own style of sacred music, as well as producing many other artists. He was the producer, engineer, programmer, keyboard, guitar and bass player for the groundbreaking Game of Chants, in corroboration with Guru Singh, Seal and Guru Ganesha.
Known as a wizard in the recording studio, his services are in great demand, and he regularly produces for many of the leading mantra artists such as Snatam Kaur, Gurunam Singh, Krishna Kaur, Satkirin Kaur, Sat Kartar and Girish.
